National Student Voter Mobilization Campaign Continues to Draw Attention

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, October 6th 2015 – The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) continues to actively encourage students to partake in its nationwide voter mobilization campaign. Since the launch of CASA’s Get Out The Vote campaign on September 1st, post-secondary students from across the country have been pledging to vote in massive numbers.

“With less than two weeks left before the election and no obvious front-runner, we more than ever can directly shape the outcome of the election”, said Erik Queenan, Board Chair for CASA. Through its partnership with Apathy is Boring, CASA has trained volunteers on the ground in major cities and 23 campuses across Canada.

CASA’s campaign has caught the eye of many, notably the Rick Mercer Report, whose season opener will be showcasing St. Francis Xavier University and its students’ commitment to getting out the vote. The show airs tonight at 8pm EST on CBC.

From now until October 19th, CASA calls on all parties to actively engage with post-secondary students and focus on issues that affect young Canadians. “There are 2 million Canadians in post-secondary and we are determined to reverse the trend of student apathy once and for all. We truly believe students can be the game-changer in this election”, added Queenan.
