CASA’s 2018 Annual General Meeting (AGM) was hosted by the University of New Brunswick Student Union, with assistance from the St. Thomas University Students’ Union, in Fredericton, New Brunswick from March 20th to 22nd. During the conference, CASA’s student-led committees and their Board of Directors representative(s) presented the work they accomplished over the past year. Student leaders then discussed, debated, and voted on these initiatives, which were designed to improve CASA’s effectiveness as a student advocacy organization. Additionally, during CASA’s end-of-year reception, awards were handed out to student leaders for their exceptional work over the past year and for their dedication to the student cause.
CASA’s Advocacy Week took place from November 27th to December 1st, and was hosted at the Lord Elgin Hotel in Ottawa’s downtown core. During this week, delegates received in-depth training on how to lobby and on the research behind each of the policies we’d be recommending to the federal government in meetings. Once prepared, delegates attended meetings with Ministers, Members of Parliament, Senators, and sector stakeholders to advocate for improvements to Canada’s post-secondary system.
CASA’s Policy and Strategy conference is the organization’s direction-setting conference. Hosted by the Athabasca University Students’ Union (AUSU) from July 24th to 27th, student leaders from CASA’s 21 member associations came together in Kananaskis, Alberta to select priority areas for the year and to develop projects for the year. The goal of the conference was to place CASA’s membership firmly in control of the direction and focus of the organization for the year ahead.
CASA’s Foundations Conference was hosted at the Four Points hotel in Gatineau, Quebec from May 22nd to the 26th. The conference was centered around introducing CASA’s incoming student delegates to the organization and preparing them to take control of the organization.
