This fall, CASA and its 23 member student associations will be launching a nationwide Get Out The Vote (GOTV) campaign! This non-partisan campaign aims to encourage post-secondary students across the country to get out and vote in the 2019 federal election and to make sure their voice is heard.
In preparation for the campaign, CASA will be hosting three regional training conferences. Participating associations are encouraged to bring as many executives, council members, and volunteers of the campaign to learn how to run this coordinated voter mobilization effort on their campus. There is also ample opportunity to tailor the campaign to each individual campus, as each has different needs.
This GOTV conference is for participating student associations from Canada's Central provinces: Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Nunavut.
When & Where
The two-day conference will be held from August 15-16 in the Montgomery room of the Carleton Suite Hotel in Ottawa, ON.
Due to high demand over the summer months, CASA's room block and discounted rate at The Carleton Suite Hotel will only be held until July 18th. To book, call the hotel's reservations team at 613-231-2020 and use booking code #7989 CASA. Alternatively, you can visit their website thecarletonsuitehotel.com and enter the arrival date and the same booking code #7989 CASA.
You are welcome to stay elsewhere, but will be responsible for finding transportation to and from the conference location. We would also caution that August is high tourist season in Ottawa, so please book your accommodations as soon as possible.
The full schedule is available at the link above. Broadly speaking, the sessions will cover:
- Mobilization strategies and canvassing 101
- Communications and media interview training
- How to organize an all-candidates debate
- How to run a non-partisan campaign
- Techniques for collecting pledges
- How to use CASA's digital infrastructure
- Digital security in age of hacking & fake news
Student associations who are not members of CASA, also referred to as "observers," may only attend this conference if they have purchased the campaign. For more details on how observers can participate, click here.
