Ottawa, ON, June 04, 2026— As the national voice for post-secondary students in Canada, CASA is closely monitoring developments in artificial intelligence policy, particularly regarding post-secondary education and youth employment. The federal government’s new National Strategy on Artificial Intelligence: AI for All demonstrates a dedication to innovation, skills training and AI literacy which CASA has been advocating for since 2024.
CASA welcomes the federal government’s commitment to creating new opportunities for post-secondary students, and is pleased to see new investments in the Student Work Placement Program (SWPP) and Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) through the addition of 90,000 jobs.
CASA also supports the federal government’s approach in emphasizing skills training, as bridging the AI literacy gap remains a particularly pressing issue for post-secondary students in Canada. We are encouraged by the federal government’s adoption of a human-in-the-loop approach in its AI strategy for the public service, and hope for this to be expanded into all aspects of AI-literacy and skills training for post-secondary students.
We commend the federal government for prioritizing safeguards and legislating to protect Canadians when it comes to artificial intelligence, but without clear regulations, we remain cautious about the strategy’s commitment to ensuring a personal AI agent for every post-secondary student. CASA encourages the government to develop clear and robust safety guidelines for any generalized AI tool, particularly for post-secondary students who may be below the age of 18.
“As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into education and employment, students need both opportunities and safeguards”, said Sabina Kapoor, the 2026-2027 Chair of CASA, “responsible implementation will be critical to ensuring these technologies expand opportunities for students while protecting their interests.”
We are looking forward to working with decision-makers to ensure students are equipped to thrive in a labour market increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence. CASA will continue to advocate for innovation in post-secondary education and encourage an AI integration approach that is ethical and responsible.
