Who We Are
The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) is a not-for-profit organization, composed of 25 student associations representing the interests of 365,000 students to the federal government of Canada. CASA advocates to make textbooks more affordable, reduce student debt, create valuable work opportunities, provide students with mental health support , support student research, and much more. This is all done with the goal of establishing a post-secondary education system in Canada that is accessible, affordable, innovative and of the highest quality.
Position Profile
Reporting to the Executive Director and working in close collaboration with other home office staff, the Member Relations Officer will manage numerous partnerships and relationships with student unions/asscociations required for CASA’s advocacy activities. They will manage internal and external relationships in an effort towards member recruitment and retention. This position will require extensive travel across Canada.
Qualifications:
- A degree from a post-secondary institution or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills;
- Excellent communication skills, including public speaking;
- Familiarity and understanding of social media and relevant tools
- Ability to use both Mac OS and Windows, as well as the Microsoft Office suite
- Demonstrated experience and ability in conference planning and implementation;
- Demonstrated experience and ability in promoting and advancing the interests of a cause or organization;
- Fluency in both official languages in considered as an asset;
- A strong background or relevant experience in stakeholder relations;
- A strong background or relevant experience in the post-secondary education sector;
- Past involvement in student government and knowledge of how student governments operate;
- Previous experience with or knowledge of CASA will be considered an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Visiting campuses across Canada and presenting to student union bodies on CASA’s advocacy work;
- Act as a primary contact between member associations and the Head Office (this includes responding promptly to member associations needs, concerns, or inquiries);
- Acquiring knowledge of concerns, challenges or opportunities relevant to CASA (this includes reading campus newspapers, minutes and talking to executives and students) on member campuses;
- Organizing and implementing meetings and consultations with stakeholders;
- Recruitment of new student associations and follow up of observer associations;
- Participating in conference planning including session design and facilitation;
- All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
