Monday, July 23rd

5:00-7:00 pm

Board Discussion (for CASA's Board of Directors)

This session, between CASA's Board of Directors and Home Office staff, will help prepare the Board to lead many of the sessions and social activities during the conference.

7:30-10:00 pm

Social Activity

This casual activity will allow for delegates to better get to know one another over pizza (options will be available for those with dietary restrictions). The session will be led by CASA's Board of Directors, and delegates are asked to meet at 7:30 pm in the Place Vanier Residence lobby.

7:00-9:00 pm

Staff Social & Discussion (for staff)

This session, created for all staff of provincial groups or student associations, will allow for a more formal introduction to CASA's new Executive Director and Home Office team, as well as a discussion about how we can help each other in our work for students. Pizza and drinks will be provided. This will take place in the second floor of the Thea Koerner House.

Tuesday, July 24th

Thea Koerner House Graduate Student Centre - UBC

8:30-9:00 am

Come say hello to CASA's Home Office staff, pick up your name tag, and get settled in for the day.

9:00-9:45 am

Introductions & First Nations Elder Opening

After welcoming participants to the conference, CASA's Home Office staff and Board of Directors will briefly introduce themselves, and will invite delegates from observer associations to do the same. Following this, First Nations Elder from the Musqueam Band, Larry Grant, will be providing opening remarks for the conference.

9:45-10:00 am

Code of Conduct

In groups, a Board member will provide an overview of CASA's Code of Conduct policy, as well as expectations on conduct at conferences. Contact information to reach CASA's Code of Conduct Officers will also be provided.

10:00-12:00 pm

Priorities Discussion

In the same groups, Board members will spend the first half of this session discussing with the delegates around the table the reasoning behind why each priority theme has been selected for CASA's advocacy efforts this year. This will include referencing the membership consultation as well as political realities and opportunities at the federal government today. In the second half of this session, members will be asked to apply the "principles, concerns, resolutions" method of policy creation to explore specific issues under those chosen priority themes that CASA could expand its policy on.

Wellness Activity - Trail Mix Snack

To prioritize the wellbeing of conference attendees and to set the tone for student leaders to maintain a healthy work-life balance throughout the year, CASA will be including a series of wellness activities throughout the conference. During this wellness break, delegates will be assembling their own trail mix to snack on during the conference.

12:30-2:00 pm

2:00-3:00 pm

Board Action Plan

The Board of Directors will present their action plan for the year. Included will be a description of their respective portfolios and main objectives, projects and timelines for the year. Members will also have an opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. As part of the Director-at-Large's action plan, Yana Titarenko will invite members to join a new ad hoc committee that will focus on equity issues in post-secondary education, and how CASA can make sure to consider these issues in all of its policy development and advocacy efforts.

3:00-4:30 pm

Prime Minister's Youth Council Update & Consultation

Our very own delegate from the Students' Union, University of Calgary, Sagar Grewal, has been appointed to the Prime Minister's Youth Council. As such, he will be presenting alongside the Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Peter Scheifke, on the council's work thus far. They will also be providing conference attendees with the chance to participate in a consultation on youth policy.

4:30-5:00 pm

Observer Roundtable (for observer associations)

CASA's Board of Directors will be checking in with our observer associations after the first day, and explaining the process for attending the next day's working sessions. During this session, observers will also be invited to share their association's priorities for the year, including those related to advocacy, and other important initiatives happening on their campus.

5:00-6:30 pm

Tour of UBC Farm

We will be meeting in the Place Vanier Residence lobby at 5:00 pm to walk over together for a private tour of the UBC Farm. This fully functional farm is unique in that it's in an entirely urban area and focuses on sustainable food systems.

College & Polytechnic Advocacy Brainstorming Session (for all college and polytechnic associations)

This session, designed for both member and observer delegates from college and polytechnic associations, will serve as a brainstorming session to strengthen CASA's advocacy efforts in this area, and to help the organization address particular issues faced by college and polytechnic students. Delegates are encouraged to bring ideas about policy areas they wish for the organization to explore, as well as statistical or anecdotal evidence from their own campuses.

3:00-3:45 pm

Wellness Activity - Brain Dump

During this activity, delegates will be asked to write down every to-do item on their minds, both personal and professional, and learn how to prioritize important items each day and better manage their time and stress levels throughout their terms as student leaders.
