Educated Solutions: Where Do We Go From Here? The Future of Post-Secondary Education in Ontario

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

TORONTO, Sept 7th, 2022 - The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA), in  collaboration with the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) and student unions across Ontario, has released the 2022 Educated Solutions report. This edition of Educated Solutions Volume 16 focuses on the future of post-secondary education in Ontario, and examines the various areas that governments, stakeholders, and institutions must consider as they develop their strategic visions for the sector.

“Two intense years of pandemic impacts have brought to light many longstanding issues within the post-secondary education sector, from student financial aid and healthcare to campus sexual violence and accessibility concerns,” said Mackenzy Metcalfe, Executive Director of CASA. “Educated Solutions provides invaluable insights into the future of post-secondary education, and where we can best advocate to improve the lives of students.”

Over the past two years, the impacts of COVID-19 have sparked intense conversation over how post-secondary can modify its policies and practices to generate a more accessible, affordable, high quality, and innovative education system. As these challenges continue, it is essential that the post-secondary sector is able to effectively address the many barriers that students face both during, and after, their studies. These policy and practice considerations were carefully factored into the various topics featured in Educated Solutions, including student financial aid, mental health, campus sexual violence prevention, and more.

“Given the interconnected nature of federal and provincial realities, especially surrounding student financial aid, it’s important that the post-secondary sector is able to adapt to the needs and concerns of students,” said Trevor Potts, Policy and Research Analyst at CASA and co-author of Educated Solutions Volume 16. “As we begin a new school year, it’s essential that post-secondary students have the accessible and affordable environment they need to succeed both in their studies and upon graduation.”

Each year, Educated Solutions gives post-secondary stakeholders across Ontario an opportunity to provide their thoughts, opinions, and insights on issues impacting Ontario’s post-secondary education system. CASA hopes that the diverse perspectives in the 2022 edition will offer an understanding into how all post-secondary sector leaders and partners, both provincial and federal, can work together to shape the future of post-secondary to be more affordable, accessible, high quality, and innovative.
