CASA and the Quebec Student Union Strike Partnership, Commit to Working Together on Common Post-Secondary Student Issues

OTTAWA, May 10, 2017 – The Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) and the Quebec Student Union (QSU) are proud to announce a new partnership that will bring a truly national student voice to Ottawa for the first time in 40 years. This partnership will strengthen federal advocacy efforts for both organizations and, most importantly, for the post-secondary students across the country.

“We are extremely excited to have formed this partnership with QSU. A united voice that includes students from Quebec will strengthen both organizations and more importantly it will strengthen students’ voice in Ottawa.” said CASA’s Chairperson, Carley Casebeer.

“We are really enthusiastic about this new partnership with CASA. We believe that it will become a powerful tool to promote the rights and interests of Quebec’s students with the federal government", explained Simon Telles, president of the QSU.

While both CASA and the QSU remain autonomous and independent organizations, the partnership agreement encourages collaborative work on research, policy development, and student advocacy. One such collaboration includes hosting a joint Advocacy Week, an annual event where student leaders from across Canada travel to Ottawa to advocate to members of parliament for improvements to Canada’s post-secondary system.

Casebeer added, “CASA and QSU share a similar approach when it comes to promoting students’ interests. We are both committed to putting forward evidence-based policies and to working in the best interest of students. These similarities, combined with a shared desire to create a united student voice, were key in driving this partnership together.”
